We are extremely excited to annouce that Swim Torquay has been awarded a grant, to fund the installation of a Solar PV System at Plainmoor Community Swimming Pool. The installation of Solar Panels at our pool is due to save us an estimated £5,000pa. This will go some way to ensuring our future in these testing times.
Our grant provider, Viridor Credits Environmental Company, is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which provides funding for community, heritage and biodiversity projects around the UK through the Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.
Viridor Credits was set up to administer Viridor’s Contributions to the Landfill Communities Fund. It is, however, a wholly independent company, separate from Viridor’s operations.
We were awarded the grant just shy of 1 year ago, before the first lockdown due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. This has made for a bumpy ride in getting to the point of installation, but we are pleased to say that time has arrived. Installation will start on the 22nd February courtesy of IU Energy.
Huge thanks must go to Torbay Council and the Torbay Development Agency for their support of the project and helping us to navigate our way through licensing. To Viridor Credits for providing Swim Torquay with the opportunity to apply and awarding us the grant to complete the project. To IU Energy for their help and guidance on the installation of the system. And finally to the staff and management committee atSwim Torquay, for their hard work and determination in completing the application process.
